Crooked River Skatepark Shelter.
Shortlisted to design a sun shelter for the proposed Crooked River Skatepark at Rivergate Park in Cleveland, Ohio, the winning proposal attempts to play with the repeating patterns of the surrounding bridge structures as wells as follow the contextual industrial language, complimenting the history of the city and river valley. The twisted form gives homage to the twisted river and the fluid motion needed to complete the proper “line” which allows skaters to explore all the elements of the park.
The pavilion measures 38′ wide by 8′ deep by 12′ tall and provides shade shelter for a 30′ stamped concrete platform below which is adjacent to the skate park’s skateable area and marks the entry point to the park accessible via a sidewalk from the adjacent park and parking lot area.
